Why Your Website Isn't Getting You Leads (And How to Fix It)

You've got a website. It looks decent. Maybe you're even getting some traffic. But the phone isn't ringing, the inbox is quiet, and you're starting to wonder if your website is doing anything at all.

You're not alone. Most UK small business websites are digital brochures that sit there looking pretty while doing absolutely nothing to generate enquiries. Here are the six most common reasons — and what to do about each one.

1. Your Call-to-Action Is Buried (or Missing)

This is the single biggest issue we see. A visitor lands on your site, reads about your services, and then... nothing. No clear next step. No obvious button. No reason to act now.

The fix: Every page needs a clear, visible call-to-action (CTA) above the fold — meaning visitors see it without scrolling. "Get a Free Quote," "Book a Call," or "Check Availability" are all far more effective than a "Contact Us" link hidden in the navigation.

Place CTAs at the top of the page, after each major section, and at the bottom. Make them stand out with contrasting colours. Don't be shy about it — people need to be told what to do next.

2. Your Site Is Too Slow

We've written about page speed in detail before, but it bears repeating: 53% of mobile visitors leave if your site takes more than 3 seconds to load. They never see your CTA because they've already gone to your competitor.

The fix: Run your site through our free audit tool to check your speed score. If you're below 70 on performance, speed is costing you leads. Optimise images, reduce JavaScript, and consider whether your hosting is up to the job.

3. You Have No Trust Signals

Would you hand over your details to a business whose website has no reviews, no case studies, no real photos, and no evidence that actual humans work there? Neither would your customers.

The fix: Add these trust signals to your homepage and key landing pages:

  • Google reviews or testimonials with full names and photos
  • Case studies or before-and-after examples
  • Accreditations and industry memberships
  • Real team photos (not stock images — people can tell)
  • Client logos if you work B2B

Even three or four genuine testimonials can dramatically increase the number of people who fill in your contact form.

4. Your Mobile Experience Is Poor

Over 60% of UK web traffic now comes from mobile devices. If your site is hard to navigate on a phone — tiny text, buttons too close together, horizontal scrolling — you're losing the majority of your potential leads.

The fix: Test your site on your own phone right now. Can you read everything without zooming? Can you tap buttons easily with your thumb? Does the contact form work properly? If not, you need a mobile-first redesign, not just a "responsive" afterthought.

5. You're Attracting the Wrong Traffic

If you're getting traffic but no leads, you might be ranking for the wrong keywords. A plumber in Birmingham doesn't need traffic from people searching "how to fix a leaky tap" — they need people searching "emergency plumber Birmingham."

The fix: Focus your content and page titles on commercial intent keywords that include your location and service. "Wedding photographer Manchester" converts far better than "photography tips." Check Google Search Console to see what queries are actually bringing people to your site.

6. Your Contact Process Is Too Complicated

Every extra field on your contact form reduces submissions. Every extra click between "I'm interested" and "I've made an enquiry" loses people.

The fix: Keep your primary contact form to 3-4 fields maximum: name, email or phone, and a brief message. Offer multiple contact methods — some people prefer phone, others prefer WhatsApp, others prefer forms. Make your phone number clickable on mobile. If you use a booking tool, make sure it loads quickly and works on all devices.

The Honest Truth

Most lead generation problems aren't marketing problems — they're website problems. You can spend hundreds on Google Ads or social media, but if your site doesn't convert, you're pouring money into a leaking bucket.

Start by understanding where you stand. Run a free website audit to see how your site scores on performance, SEO, and best practices. It takes 10 seconds and costs nothing.

If you want a second pair of eyes on your site, send us a message on WhatsApp. We'll give you an honest assessment — no obligation, no pressure.

At Konexio Digital, we build websites designed to convert. Not just to look good — to actually bring you business.
